It gives us immense pleasure to present to you Lídia, all the way from Barcelona! Art seems to run in her blood; her art seems to pull you in. It ranges from surreal to even “disturbing” as she defines it..
- Tell us a little about yourself: where do you come from, education, background etc
I was born in Lleida in 1991, but am actually living in Barcelona (Catalonia). I started studying Fine Arts at Complutense University of Madrid. Then I came to Barcelona to finish my studies at University of Barcelona.
My passion for photography comes from about 4 years ago. I’ve painted for as long as I can remember, my dad is an artist and he taught me all I know about art: composition, color, history… Then I discovered photography and I changed my brushes for a camera.
2. When did you decide that you would become an artist? How long have you been pursuing art?
When you are a child, everyone asks you what you would like to be when you grow up. All the kids change their mind day by day. I think I decided to be an artist the momento I was born, haha. My house was always full of art because of my father so, somehow, I think it’s logical that this is my passion.
3. Have you faced any difficulties along the way?
Sure! At first I didn’t know how to use my camera. I discovered then photography and painting are not the same. I had to learn how to create art almost from zero. It was frustrating at first, but I struggled and worked a lot and I’m still working.
4. How would you define your style of art? How is it different from that of others?
I’m not sure; my first works are like magic realism, maybe surrealism. Now, I decided to renovate my style and it’s something different, I don’t know how to explain. Anyway, there’s always a disturbing effect in my work. In fact, I’ve started to hide things in my pictures and maybe that’s how it makes it different from the others (as well as the colors).
5. Which is your favorite social media platform to reach out to your audience (Instagram, Flickr, Tumblr etc)?
At first it was Facebook, but the image quality is really poor. Now I prefer Instagram, the image quality is not great either but it’s where there’s more interaction right now.6. What inspires you?
Inspiration is everywhere! Sometimes I find inspiration in movies, others in paintings… Now what inspires me the most is classical music, specially Tchaikovsky.7. What are your plans for the future?
I’ll publish a book for this Christmas with my pictures and short stories. I’m so excited because it will be my first book! Also in November I’ll be in Paris with my gallery (Fifty Dots) taking part of the Fotofever Art Fair. Can’t wait for it!
